A Model for Discipleship

Purpose:
The highest goal of Eastgate is for everyone in the world to learn the truth about Jesus Christ from someone they know and trust.  Our mission is to lead people to a saving relationship with Jesus Christ and to maturity in that relationship.  This tool is intended to assist believers in becoming true followers (disciples) of Jesus.

Premise:
It is necessary to define clearly what a true follower (or disciple) of Jesus Christ is.  This is essential so that one may successfully recognize the goal and measure progress towards true Christlikeness.  This model is a tool to help Christians apply Scriptural truths to their lives.

Potential:
This model can be used to significantly increase the spiritual growth of a Christian.  The keys to realizing this growth are to 1)honestly evaluate your true maturity; 2) set measurable goals that stretch your faith; 3) make the attainment of those goals a high priority; and 4) allowing someone else to hold you accountable to the first 3 keys.

The Great Commission:
Matthew 28:18-20 Jesus … "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

The Great Commandment:
Mark 12:29-31  Jesus … "The most important command is this: … 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.'  The second command is this: 'Love your neighbor as you love yourself.' There are no commands more important than these."
